Countertops, Granite or Quartz: What is Better in Regards to Price?

After days of research and consulting with your friends and family, your options for a perfect countertop have finally been narrowed down to two materials; quartz and granite.

But still, choosing one of them is not that easy. One thing that sets them apart might be the price, and knowing how much they cost will bring clarity before you purchase either of them.

Cost of Installing Granite Countertops

You might have noticed that granite is a pricey stone. This premium countertop material often comes with high price tags as it is a 100% natural stone quarried down the earth and cut to standard fit and installed. Since no engineering process is attached, granite appears in its pure natural form.

No wonder granite is an expensive material, the look and finish of this high-end natural stone is almost impossible to recreate. The average price range of granite is typically $80 to $130 per foot. Keep in mind that these prices are likely to fluctuate.

The final price can be affected by numerous factors, including the complexity of quarrying the stone, freight costs, demand, and stock availability. However, the price is less likely to hike or fall from $80 to $130 per square foot installed.

Cost of Installing Quartz Countertops

What makes quartz different from granite is it’s an engineered stone. The material is a combination of natural quartz in the majority, mixed with a limited amount of other minerals and colorants. Quartz maintains its uniform appearance, and they are often designed to resemble the look and feel of natural stone.

Talking about the price, they are slightly affordable compared to granite but still, quartz is an expensive choice. You should expect a price range starting from $80 to an average of $110 per foot installed.

Premium, custom-built countertops can range up to $150 per square foot. Since no external factors are involved in the pricing, the cost of quartz rarely fluctuates. However, the numbers cannot be the same, especially if you are looking for a unique design or color shade instead of going for a basic variant.

As both of these premium materials remain expensive, choosing a countertop is always a matter of individual taste. If you’re not concerned about the price, granite surfaces can add a natural look to your kitchen countertops, while installing quartz may feel slightly affordable compared to the cost of granite.
